Igor Azevedo Bomfim remains fugitive after Bahia court orders his arrest

Igor Azevedo Bomfim, a 46‑year‑old former professor of the Distrito Federal Education Secretariat, was convicted of murdering his ex‑girlfriend Mayara de Souza Lisboa in November 2010. He received a sentence of 10 years and 10 months in prison. After a series of appeals, the Tribunal de Justiça da Bahia issued a new arrest warrant on 29 June 2024, which was carried out six days later, but Bomfim has not been located. More than a month after the order, he continues to evade authorities. His defense has filed a habeas‑corpus petition seeking to cancel the warrant, but the request remains pending. Bomfim had worked as a temporary teacher in the Federal District from 2021 to 2024 and had previously presented clean criminal‑record certificates at the time of his hiring.
