Igor Balukčić leads Republika Srpska Vice President race

Igor Balukčić, the HDZ 1990 candidate, has taken the lead in the race for the Vice President of Republika Srpska following the processing of postal and diaspora votes. According to updated data from the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Balukčić holds 3,115 votes, overtaking the SDP BiH candidate, Ivan Begić, who has 2,818 votes.

The shift in momentum occurred as votes from abroad and diplomatic-consular offices were tallied. While Begić initially held a lead in regular votes, Balukčić secured a significant advantage through postal ballots, receiving 828 votes compared to Begić’s 68.

Following the update, Ivan Begić conceded the race via social media, congratulating Balukčić and wishing him success in his work for the citizens. The role of diaspora votes remains critical in these elections due to the large number of Croats displaced from the region during the war.
