Igor Grosu targets November for Moldova administrative reform
Parliamentary Speaker Igor Grosu has announced a timeline for Moldova’s administrative-territorial reform, aiming for adoption by the second half of November. This schedule is intended to ensure the law is enacted at least one year before the general local elections scheduled for autumn 2027, adhering to recommendations from the Venice Commission.
The reform seeks to provide predictability for mayors, local councils, and future candidates. Grosu emphasized that the legislation must allow the Central Electoral Commission to calculate election dates for the first and second rounds within established timeframes.
Regarding sensitive areas such as the Security Zone, Grosu stated that authorities must consider local specificities and the close ties residents maintain with institutions on the right bank of the Nistru. He assured that the reform aims to maintain public services, including medical and educational assistance, directly within local communities to prevent residents from having to travel long distances.
