Igor Lichnovsky joins Chile national team as emergency call-up

Igor Lichnovsky has joined the Chilean national football team as an emergency call-up following an injury to Benjamín Kuscevic. The 32-year-old defender, who currently plays for Universidad de Chile, was summoned by interim coach Nicolás Córdova for upcoming friendly matches.

Speaking at Santiago Airport before departing for the United States, Lichnovsky emphasized his intention to contribute positively to the squad. He noted that his goal is to “sumar, y por lo menos, lo mínimo, no restar” (add value, or at the very least, not detract), referring to the importance of constructive support for the national team process.

Lichnovsky clarified that his comments regarding the need to build rather than detract were intended as constructive criticism for everyone involved rather than a directed attack on any specific individual or the coaching staff. He expressed a desire to assist the team both on the pitch and by offering guidance to the younger generation of players.
