Igor Matanović scores twice for SC Freiburg in DFB-Pokal win

Igor Matanović delivered a standout performance for SC Freiburg during the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Entering the match as a substitute in the 69th minute with Freiburg leading 1-0, the Croatian striker scored two goals and provided one assist in approximately 25 minutes of play.

Freiburg secured a 5-1 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf. Following Matanović’s opening goal in the 71st minute, teammates Lukas Kübler and Jordy Makenga added goals to extend the lead. Matanović assisted Makenga’s goal and concluded the scoring in the 94th minute.

This performance follows a productive week for Matanović, who also recorded an assist in Freiburg’s 3-1 Conference League play-off victory against Motherwell. Since joining Freiburg from Eintracht in the summer of 2025, Matanović has maintained strong form, recording 15 goals and four assists across all competitions last season.
