Igor Matovič calls for Slovak opposition unity and joint protests
Igor Matovič, leader of Hnutie Slovensko, has called for increased cooperation among Slovak opposition parties to combat what he describes as a governing mafia. Matovič criticized current opposition leaders for creating false hopes regarding early elections and failing to engage in meaningful dialogue with his movement, asserting that polls indicate they cannot succeed without his party.
To demonstrate unity, Hnutie Slovensko has invited the so-called ‘Šimečka quartet’ (PS, SaS, KDH, and Demokrati), along with NOVA and Za ľudí, to participate in joint demonstrations on November 17. These rallies are planned for several regional cities, including Trnava, Trenčín, Nitra, Banská Bystrica, Žilina, Prešov, and Košice, to commemorate the struggle for freedom and democracy.
However, the movement expressed concern regarding the National Council's scheduling of a parliamentary session on the afternoon of November 17. Michal Šipoš, head of the Hnutie Slovensko parliamentary club, suggested that the timing might limit opposition participation in the protests and requested that the session begin a day earlier.
