Igor Mirkovic detained over 2023 KFOR and Kosovo Police attacks

The Basic Court in Prishtina has ordered 30 days of pre-trial detention for Igor Mirkovic, a Serbian citizen suspected of involvement in the violent unrest in Zvecan in May 2023. Mirkovic is accused of participating in attacks against KFOR peacekeepers and Kosovo Police officers.

The charges against Mirkovic include forming a group to act against the constitutional order, endangering internationally protected persons, attacking official personnel, hooliganism, and unauthorized possession of weapons. The prosecution noted that the May 2023 clashes involved the use of firearms, explosive devices, and hard objects, resulting in injuries to dozens of KFOR personnel and police officers.

The court determined that detention is necessary to prevent Mirkovic from fleeing to Serbia, which authorities say does not cooperate on judicial matters, and to ensure he does not interfere with witnesses or destroy evidence. According to case files, Mirkovic has reportedly admitted to the acts he is accused of.
