Igor Paixão faces scrutiny amid goal drought at Marseille
Igor Paixão, the most expensive signing in Olympique de Marseille's history, is facing a significant period of poor form. The Brazilian winger has gone ten consecutive matches without a goal or an assist, with his last decisive contribution dating back to April 10 against Metz.
Financial estimates suggest the cost of Paixão's goals is exceptionally high. Based on his 35 million euro transfer fee from Feyenoord and gross wages of approximately 350,000 euros per month, his total cost to the club since August 2025 is estimated at over 40 million euros. This averages to roughly 3.34 million euros per goal scored during his tenure.
On the pitch, tensions have surfaced, including an incident where Paixão appeared to avoid manager Bruno Genesio during a substitution in a recent match against Troyes. Despite these challenges and recent struggles with physical issues, Genesio has publicly maintained his confidence in the player, noting that the group continues to support him. An upcoming Europa League match against Olympiakos is viewed as a potential turning point for the attacker.
