Igor Paixão remains at Olympique de Marseille after transfer window uncertainty
Brazilian winger Igor Paixão remained at Olympique de Marseille despite significant interest and potential sale during the summer transfer window. While club owner Frank McCourt initially considered a sale to meet financial requirements set by the DNCG, the decision was reversed late in the window to avoid weakening the squad.
Manager Bruno Genesio played a decisive role in retaining the player by promising him a central and major role within the team for the upcoming season. This intervention followed interest from clubs such as Sunderland. Goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange noted that Paixão never expressed a desire to leave, stating, “I believe he never said he wanted to leave. He is here, he is very happy.”
With the departures of players like Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Paixão is expected to take on increased responsibility in the attacking third to provide individual creativity for the team.
