Igoumenitsa man detained for attempted murder after partner injured by car

A 29-year-old man has been placed in pre-trial detention in Igoumenitsa, Greece, following an incident where his 24-year-old partner was seriously injured after being struck by his vehicle. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning following an argument between the couple.

Video footage shows the woman positioned on the hood of the car while the vehicle was in motion. As the car navigated a turn, she fell onto the roadway, sustaining severe injuries. The victim was initially treated at Filia Hospital before being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the University Hospital of Ioannina due to the severity of her condition. She is currently being treated for serious traumatic brain injuries, a clavicle fracture, and a hematoma.

The suspect faces charges of attempted murder. During his interrogation, he denied intending to kill or harm the victim, claiming he stopped the vehicle and sought help immediately upon realizing she was injured. His defense attorney has stated they believe the legal classification of the charges may change as the investigation continues.
