Igreja de São Francisco de Paula to restore surrounding historic buildings
The Venerável Ordem Terceira dos Mínimos, which manages the Igreja de São Francisco de Paula in downtown Rio de Janeiro, has committed to restoring historical buildings surrounding the Largo de São Francisco de Paula.
This initiative is part of the Reviver Centro Patrimônio Pró-APAC, a municipal program providing subsidies for the recovery of degraded properties in the central region. The program offers municipal subsidies of up to R$ 3,212 per square meter for restoration and requalification works.
The restoration project includes properties located on Largo de São Francisco de Paula and Rua do Teatro. Because the church, built in 1865, is a protected landmark, strict regulations apply to any nearby interventions to ensure the structural integrity and historical characteristics of the area are maintained. The goal is to provide new uses for these buildings, such as housing, to promote urban development and security in the region.
