IGSU issues safety warnings regarding wine fermentation risks

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) has issued a warning to citizens following a recent fatality involving a person found dead in a wine fermentation space. Authorities emphasize that the danger of carbon dioxide accumulation persists as long as the fermentation process is active.

To prevent accidents, the IGSU recommends that fermentation take place in open, well-ventilated areas and that cellars and basements be properly aired. Officials advise individuals to check gas concentrations before entering such spaces and strictly warn against attempting to rescue unconscious persons without professional protective equipment.

Liliana Pușcașu, a spokesperson for the IGSU, noted that the risk does not necessarily disappear after 48 or 72 hours, as the duration of the process depends on ambient temperatures.
