Igualada political group seeks to expand affordable rental housing stock

The political group Ara Igualada is advocating for an expansion of the municipal rental housing stock to provide more affordable options in Igualada. Spokesperson Alícia Fernández stated that housing will be a top priority for the group if they join the government following the municipal elections in May 2027.

Currently, the municipal rental pool contains only 18 homes, a slow increase from 15 in 2024. Representatives Pilar Rodríguez and Xavi Grados have called for more aggressive measures, such as contacting owners of vacant properties to offer rehabilitation aid and conducting a census of empty homes, which are estimated to number approximately 1,600 according to the Local Housing Plan. The group aims to bring Igualada's housing stock levels closer to other regional capitals like Vic, which has 278 homes in its municipal pool.
