Igualada PSC proposes Heat Plan to protect citizens

The PSC municipal group in Igualada has proposed a ‘Heat Plan’ designed to protect citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, from rising temperatures and heatwaves.

The initiative includes 12 specific actions divided into three areas: services, air conditioning, and public spaces. Proposed measures include making urban buses free during heatwave hours, constructing a new summer pool on Avenida de Catalunya, and providing free pool access to seniors, pregnant women, people with disabilities, and children under 16 during extreme heat events.

To improve indoor comfort, the plan suggests installing air conditioning in schools and providing subsidies for ceiling fans in homes occupied by residents over 65. For public spaces, the proposal includes creating a ‘Climate Streets Network’ through tree planting, installing pergolas for shade, and adding water-based play areas in parks.
