Igualeja wildfire in Málaga triggers emergency phase and resident confinement
A major wildfire in the Igualeja area of Málaga, Spain, prompted the Junta de Andalucía to activate the Plan Infoca emergency phase (Operational Level 1) after the blaze broke out near the Mirador de Igualeja on Saturday night.
The fire caused the preventive confinement of residents in Igualeja and Parauta, affecting approximately 1,000 people due to heavy smoke. Emergency measures included the evacuation of several homes and the closure of key roads, including the MA-7304 and the A-397 connecting Ronda and San Pedro de Alcántara.
Firefighting efforts were significantly challenged by steep terrain and strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h. The operation mobilized over 200 personnel, including 140 forest firefighters, and up to 21 aerial resources. Approximately 50 people were evacuated from local businesses and tourist sites.
By Monday morning, the fire was declared controlled, allowing authorities to lift the confinement orders and reopen most affected roads, though crews remained on-site for final suppression and monitoring.
