Minas Gerais destroys seized environmental equipment

The State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad) in Minas Gerais is conducting the destruction of materials seized during environmental enforcement operations. These items, including chainsaws, wood, charcoal, and fishing gear, are being destroyed because they cannot be reused, donated, or maintained safely, thereby preventing their use in future environmental crimes.

Regional reports indicate significant volumes of seized goods across Minas Gerais. In the Alto São Francisco region, authorities destroyed 76 chainsaws and approximately 1.7 tons of charcoal, along with over 100 animal capture devices. In the Alto Jequitinhonha region, 604 pieces of fishing equipment were destroyed, while the North of Minas saw the destruction of one ton of charcoal and approximately two tons of fishing nets and gear.

In separate criminal incidents in Ceará, police arrested three individuals in Penaforte suspected of illegal gambling and money laundering. Additionally, in Iguatu, two suspects were detained after approximately 4.7 kg of cocaine was discovered in a residence. In Campos Novos, a 59-year-old man was arrested after allegedly threatening officers with a firearm, leading to the seizure of seven weapons.

In Mato Grosso, singer Amado Batista was fined over R$ 157,000 for unauthorized clearing of 157 hectares of native Cerrado vegetation on his farm.
