IHCL to build 176-room Gateway hotel in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) signed an agreement to develop a new Gateway hotel on the Grand Southern Trunk Road in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu. The greenfield project will feature 176 rooms, an all‑day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant, a bar, a swimming pool, gym, health club/spa, and more than 5,000 sq ft of banquet space with additional meeting rooms and outdoor lawns for weddings and corporate events.

IHCL executive vice‑president of Real Estate & Development Suma Venkatesh said travel demand is expanding beyond metros into Tier‑2 cities like Trichy, driven by business, education and religious travel. The hotel will strengthen IHCL’s footprint in high‑growth Tier‑2 markets and enhance the South Indian spiritual circuit. Hospitality developer Try Alam Hotels, represented by A. Bagurudeen, will partner with IHCL on the project, bringing the Gateway brand to the city. Upon completion, IHCL’s portfolio in Tamil Nadu will total 33 hotels, including 14 under development.
