Iheanacho Emenike sentenced to three years for lawyer impersonation
Iheanacho Emenike, a 65-year-old man, has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Aba South Magistrate’s Court in Abia State for impersonating a lawyer. Emenike pleaded guilty to charges including obtaining N500,000 through false pretenses and using a fraudulent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal.
According to the prosecution, Emenike presented himself as “E. U. Iheanacho Esq.” to a woman named Onuoha Chinasa, claiming he would prepare an Irrevocable Power of Attorney. Magistrate Erinma Maduagwu ordered the sentences for the three counts to run concurrently, resulting in a total of three years of imprisonment with no option of a fine.
The Nigerian Bar Association Aba Branch Anti-Fake Lawyers Committee noted that the judgment is a significant step in protecting the integrity of the legal profession and curbing the activities of unauthorized practitioners.
