IIAP promotes agroforestry innovation in Loreto plots

The Peruvian Institute of Amazonian Research (IIAP) is transforming family plots in the lower Ucayali River basin into agroforestry research laboratories. Through a participatory research model, 85 families in the Loreto region are evaluating new technologies to recover low-yield crops, diversify production, and improve management in flood-prone areas.

By July, the IIAP had already exceeded several of its targets for 2026. The initiative has intervened in 22 hectares of camu camu, 11 hectares of cacao, and 209 hectares of forest components. The program reaches producers across several locations in the Maynas province, including Jenaro Herrera, Sapuena, and Nuevo Progreso. In addition to technical implementation, the IIAP provides training sessions to strengthen local producer capacities.
