IIHS safety tests result in lower ratings for GMC Canyon and Toyota Crown Signia

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released new crash test results, revealing that several vehicles failed to secure the prestigious ‘Top Safety Pick+’ designation.

The 2026 GMC Canyon crew cab received a ‘marginal’ rating in the moderate overlap front crash test, with researchers noting increased injury risks for rear passengers' heads and necks, as well as driver leg injuries. Additionally, the Canyon received a ‘poor’ rating for its ability to avoid vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, failing to prevent impacts in most scenarios and struggling to detect motorcyclists.

The 2026 Toyota Crown Signia also failed to earn a Top Safety Pick award. While it performed well in small overlap front and side impact tests, it received a ‘marginal’ evaluation in the updated moderate overlap front crash test. Specifically, the vehicle struggled with rear occupant kinematics, where the lap belt tended to migrate toward the abdomen during deceleration, increasing injury risks for rear passengers.
