IIIT Hyderabad and Hexagon R&D India partner for Digital Twin research

The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad) and Hexagon R&D India have partnered to establish the Hexagon Digital Twin Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the institute. The collaboration aims to advance applied research, education, and industry cooperation in fields including computer vision, spatial computing, and digital twins, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).

Through this partnership, students, faculty, and researchers will gain access to Hexagon’s advanced precision imaging laser scanner, the Leica BLK360 G2, along with specialized software. This technology enables the creation of high-fidelity digital representations of physical spaces. The CoE is intended to serve as a platform for developing prototypes and proofs of concept to address practical industry challenges.

Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla, Director of IIIT Hyderabad, noted that the collaboration will allow researchers to move research from the laboratory to practical applications using real-world spatial data. Navaneet Mishra, Senior Vice President and Head of Hexagon’s R&D India, emphasized that the lab will provide access to industry-grade technologies and real-world datasets to explore new possibilities across various industries.
