IIT Bhubaneswar and Odisha government to launch renewable energy research centre
The Odisha government and IIT Bhubaneswar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Centre for Renewable Energy Research and Studies (CRRS) on the institute’s campus. The initiative, facilitated by GRIDCO Limited acting as the implementing agency for the state’s Energy Department, aims to accelerate the development and commercial adoption of clean-energy technologies in Odisha.
Developed under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy (OREP) 2022, the centre will serve as a collaborative hub connecting academia, industry, the power sector, and government agencies. The facility is planned to include advanced laboratories, testing and certification units, pilot demonstration plants, a specialized training centre, and a renewable energy data centre for resource assessment and forecasting.
Research at the CRRS will focus on several emerging and strategic areas, including solar and wind energy, green hydrogen, energy storage systems, smart grids, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, and sustainable battery systems.
