IIT Bombay student death investigation intensifies in Mumbai

The investigation into the death of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode has intensified, with the Mumbai Crime Branch recording statements from over 40 individuals. Those questioned include the student's parents, fellow students, hostel staff, and professors. Investigators have sent Wakode's two mobile phones, a laptop, and a tablet to the forensic science laboratory in Kalina for digital analysis to uncover evidence regarding the circumstances preceding his death.

Previously, the Powai police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Professor Suryanarayan Dula following a complaint by Wakode's father. While the Crime Branch intends to summon Professor Dula for questioning, his statement has not yet been recorded.

In response to the incident, Sahil's parents, Ravindra and Sonali Wakode, have been conducting an indefinite hunger strike at Mumbai's Azad Maidan. They are demanding the immediate arrest of those named in the FIR, specifically targeting Professor Dula and IIT Bombay Director Shirish Kedare. Prakash Ambedkar, president of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, visited the protesters, criticizing the current police investigation as disappointing and questioning whether political influence has impacted the proceedings.
