IIT Delhi PhD scholar dies after 45-day hospitalization

Manish Anand, a PhD scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, has died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following a 45-day hospitalization. He was originally found unconscious and injured at his rented residence in Munirka Village, South Delhi, on August 18. Neighbors had to break open the door, which was locked from the inside, to reach him.

Following directions from the Supreme Court and a complaint filed by the Security Officer of IIT Delhi, police have registered a case of abetment of suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Kishangarh police station. While the FIR has been filed, authorities have not specified if it is directed at any particular individual. CCTV footage reportedly shows the scholar was alone at the time of the incident.

This marks the third student suicide case reported at IIT Delhi this year, following two previous incidents involving an MSc student in August and a B.Tech student in March.
