IIT Guwahati hosts inaugural INDIS 2026 design conference
The Department of Design at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, in collaboration with the MIT Institute of Design Pune, hosted the inaugural International Conference on Design and Innovation Studies (INDIS 2026). Held from September 28 to 30, 2026, the event focused on how design, technology, and innovation can provide accessible, equitable, and sustainable solutions to complex societal challenges.
The conference was held alongside the first India edition of Asia Design Week, creating a multidisciplinary forum for researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. The program included academic exchanges, research presentations—including 81 research papers—exhibitions, and opportunities for international collaboration within the creative industries.
Assam Minister of Education, Plain Tribes and Information Technology, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, attended as the Chief Guest, emphasizing that innovation is essential for socio-economic development. Paban Kr. Borthakur, Chairman of RERA Assam, also attended as the Guest of Honour.
