IIT Guwahati hosts mental health and wellbeing workshop

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has concluded a two-day Regional Capacity Building Workshop focused on positive mental health, resilience, and wellbeing. Held on September 20 and 21, 2026, the event aimed to convert mental health policies into practical institutional actions within higher education.

Organized under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme of the Ministry of Education, the workshop hosted over 100 participants from 28 institutions across the North East and Delhi regions. Attendees included faculty members, institutional leaders, hostel wardens, student welfare officers, and student representatives.

Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, addressed the mental health crisis among youth, emphasizing the necessity of understanding root causes rather than merely reacting to tragedies. Devendra Kumar, Director of the Department of Higher Education, noted that rising student enrollment reflects increased competition and aspirations among youth, necessitating stronger institutional support systems.
