IIT Kanpur professor charged with domestic violence, IIT Kharagpur professor found dead
A complaint filed by his wife led Kalyanpur police in New Delhi to book IIT Kanpur professor Nishith Srivastava on charges of domestic violence, physical assault, mental harassment and marital cruelty. The wife, also an assistant professor at the institute, alleges a pattern of abusive behavior and threats, including an incident on 11 November 2025 where Srivastava allegedly threatened her with a kitchen knife.
Separately, 36‑year‑old assistant professor Pullaguram Deepak Reddy was discovered unresponsive in his residential quarters on the IIT Kharagpur campus in West Bengal. He was taken to the campus hospital where he was pronounced dead. West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Papiya Sultana said the cause of death will be determined after a post‑mortem, noting that investigators are examining both suicide and other possible motives. The quarters have been sealed and forensic evidence is being collected.
