India and Pakistan exchange warnings amid heightened military rhetoric

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following aggressive statements from Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Singh warned that any future terrorist attacks originating from Pakistani territory would trigger a military response more powerful than previous operations, such as the Balakot airstrikes and Operation Sindoor. He emphasized that India’s commitment to peace should not be mistaken for weakness.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office strongly condemned these remarks, labeling them “provocative” and a reflection of a “hegemonistic mindset.” Foreign Office spokesperson Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan warned that any military aggression would be met with a forceful response, asserting Pakistan’s readiness to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a separate but related development regarding national security, Defence Minister Singh highlighted the role of academic institutions in strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities. He attended the launch of IIT Kanpur’s ‘Greater Than Us’ campaign, a $1 billion fundraising initiative. The minister noted that IIT Kanpur plans to establish a drone hub to reduce dependence on foreign components, aligning with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision for technological self-reliance in military sectors like AI, autonomous systems, and cybersecurity.
