IIT Madras partners with Tamil Nadu MSME agency to boost AI adoption

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has signed a memorandum of understanding with FaMe TN, the Bureau for Facilitating MSMEs in Tamil Nadu, to accelerate digital transformation, artificial‑intelligence adoption and Industry 4.0 uptake among micro, small and medium enterprises in the state. The cooperation, led by IIT Madras’ Centre of Tech Excellence and financed through a corporate‑social‑responsibility grant from Walmart Global Tech, will deliver low‑cost, user‑friendly solutions, digital readiness assessments, capacity‑building programmes, technology demonstrations and implementation support.

A key outcome is the creation of a State‑level MSME Digital Readiness and Adoption Index that will gauge the digital maturity of Tamil Nadu’s MSMEs. Professor Raghunathan Rengaswamy of IIT Madras said the partnership aims to integrate AI‑enabled workflows, shop‑floor digitisation and Industry 4.0 tools into daily operations, enhancing productivity, product quality and the global competitiveness of manufacturers in sectors such as automotive, engineering and fabrication.
