IIT Mandi Director recruitment announced by Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education has issued a call for applications for the position of Director at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi. The appointment will be made on a contractual basis for a term of five years or until the candidate reaches 70 years of age, whichever occurs first.

Eligible candidates must hold a PhD with a first-class degree, preferably in Engineering, though exceptional applicants with degrees in Science, Mathematics, or Management may be considered. Requirements include an outstanding academic record, at least 10 years of experience as a professor at a reputable institution, and a history of supervising PhD students. Candidates should also possess at least five years of administrative experience.

The current Director, Laxmidhar Behera, is scheduled to complete his tenure in December 2026. While the institute has recently faced scrutiny regarding a controversial Janmashtami poster, officials noted that the recruitment announcement was made prior to that incident.
