IIT Roorkee approved for scientific research by CBDT
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has granted approval to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee to conduct scientific research under the Income-tax Act, 2025. This approval, issued via Notification No. 119 of 2026-CBDT, classifies the institution under the category of university, college, or other institution for tax purposes.
The approval is valid for the tax years 2026-2027 through 2030-2031. To maintain this status, IIT Roorkee must adhere to several regulatory requirements, including compliance with Income-tax Rules 2026. The institution is mandated to prepare annual statements in Form No. 15 and submit them to the Director General of Income-tax (Systems) by May 31st following the tax year in which donations are received. Additionally, the institute must provide donors with a certificate in Form No. 16 specifying donation amounts.
