IIT workers strike for better wages and job stability

Workers at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Genoa held a strike and protest march to demand better wages and job stability. Approximately 2,000 employees are seeking salary increases to offset inflation and the conversion of precarious collaboration contracts into permanent positions.

Following the demonstration, which included a march from Piazza De Ferrari to the Liguria Regional Council, worker delegations met with regional officials. The Liguria Region has committed to participating in discussions with the IIT foundation to address these demands. Union representatives described the meeting as a step forward in a struggle that began nine months ago.

Political figures from the M5S party have expressed support for the workers, criticizing previous cuts to state contributions for the institute. They emphasized that the institution's international excellence depends on the professional skills of its staff and called for concrete solutions to combat job insecurity.
