IJTI marks 28th anniversary with call to uphold journalistic integrity

The Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI) marked its 28th anniversary on August 9, 2026. Under the theme “Maintaining the Dignity of Television Journalists Amidst the Storm of Disruption,” the organization called for a commitment to ethics and professionalism in response to the massive shifts in the media landscape.

IJTI Chairperson Herik Kurniawan emphasized that the rapid rise of digital technology and social media creates risks where "speed often tramples accuracy, and sensationalism risks shifting the depth of news." He stressed that television journalists must remain at the forefront of providing verified, balanced, and accountable information.

The association also highlighted the necessity of journalistic independence as a pillar of democracy. IJTI issued several calls to action, including the strict adherence to the Journalistic Code of Ethics, the rejection of all forms of intervention or attempts to silence the press, and the wise use of digital technology to expand information reach without sacrificing journalistic sovereignty.
