IKEA is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Alcorcón store, which opened in September 1996 following the company’s initial entry into Spain via Badalona. To mark the milestone, the company presented a socioeconomic impact report conducted by EY regarding its operations in the Community of Madrid.
Over the past three decades, IKEA has generated 8.5 billion euros in accumulated sales in the Madrid market. The report indicates that its activity has generated a total economic impact of 8.4 billion euros, consisting of 2.717 billion euros in direct impact, 3.424 billion euros in indirect impact, and 2.259 billion euros in induced effects. Additionally, the company’s fiscal contribution to the Madrid market over 30 years amounts to 3.751 billion euros.
Carl Aaby, IKEA’s national CEO, noted that the company’s mission since arriving in Spain has been to make design, functionality, and quality accessible to more people. The Alcorcón location remains a significant point of contact for consumers in the region.
