Ikea expands second-hand marketplace to Germany, UK, and Ireland

Ikea is expanding its pre-owned marketplace to include Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, bringing its total active markets for the platform to nine. The expansion follows successful pilots in Spain and Norway.

In Germany, the marketplace is exclusive to Ikea Family loyalty members. Customers can buy and sell used Ikea products, with sellers receiving a 15 percent bonus coupon if they choose to receive their payout via an Ikea gift card. The platform aims to capitalize on the growing second-hand trend and combat declining global revenues caused by consumer spending restraint.

Additionally, Ikea is testing a buyback service in Portugal and Spain, which will allow customers to sell eligible products directly back to the company. This move is part of a broader strategy to remain competitive against rivals like Jysk and XXXLutz while addressing the rising cost of living for consumers.
