IKEA launches digital second-hand marketplace in Germany

IKEA has launched a digital second-hand marketplace in Germany, operated by the Ingka Group. Within the first week of its October 14, 2026, debut, the platform recorded over 6,500 listings and attracted more than 4,100 active IKEA Family members. Approximately 60 percent of these active members are new or reactivated accounts.

The platform allows users to buy and sell used furniture and home accessories using a free IKEA Family account. To facilitate selling, the platform utilizes image recognition technology; a user can upload a single photo, and the system automatically identifies the product, providing dimensions, professional images, and price recommendations.

Currently, listing items is free, and IKEA has temporarily waived the standard 5 percent buyer protection fee. Sellers can choose to receive payments via bank transfer or an IKEA gift card. Those opting for the gift card receive an additional 15 percent coupon for future purchases. This German launch follows previous implementations in markets including Spain, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.
