Ikea launches low‑cost net curtains as mosquito barrier

Ikea introduced the Lill net curtain, sold in a pack of two for €6.99 (under €4 per piece). Each curtain measures 280 cm by 300 cm, is made of recycled polyester, and can be cut to size without sewing. The net allows windows to stay open while providing a physical barrier against insects, though it does not seal completely and cannot guarantee full mosquito exclusion.

Biologist Rubén Bueno explained that mosquitoes are attracted to chemical cues such as carbon dioxide, lactic acid and octenol, not to the sweetness of blood. He advises eliminating any standing water that could serve as breeding sites and using approved repellents. Bueno also notes that bite reactions vary, making some bites less noticeable, and offers tips to differentiate mosquito bites from those of other insects.
