Ikea removes popular plant-based hotdog from assortment

Ikea has removed its popular plant-based ‘Plant-Hotdog’ from its Swedish Bistro menus, including locations in Germany. The product, which was made from rice protein, has been replaced by a vegetable-based hotdog composed of kale, lentils, quinoa, onions, and carrots.

While Ikea stated that its assortment is continuously being developed based on customer feedback and taste preferences, the company did not provide a specific reason for the removal of the rice-protein version. The decision has sparked significant backlash on social media, with many customers expressing disappointment. A petition has also been launched by an individual seeking the product's return, arguing that the remaining vegetable option does not provide the same experience as the previous meat alternative.
