Iker Muniain appointed head coach of San Lorenzo

Former Athletic Bilbao forward Iker Muniain, who retired after a brief playing spell with San Lorenzo in June 2025, will return to the Argentine club as head coach. Clarín reports the 33‑year‑old has signed a contract to replace Gustavo Álvarez, taking charge of the team for the upcoming Torneo Clausura and Copa Argentina matches. Muniain previously began his coaching career in Spain with Club Deportivo Derio and later Salamanca CF UDS before the clause in his contract allowed the move back across the Atlantic.

Muniain described San Lorenzo as “un club adictivo” during his stint as a player, expressing enthusiasm for the new challenge and pledging to restore the club’s historic stature.
