Iki Island PEACE CAMP 2026 empowers students to create global educational tools
The Nakaoshi Gakuen Project held the ‘Iki Island PEACE CAMP 2026’ on October 17–18 in Nagasaki Prefecture. Six selected middle and high school students from across Japan participated in a two-day workshop designed to transform personal interests into educational materials for global use.
Participants engaged with diverse themes, including the war in Ukraine, life in Syria, marine plastic pollution, and sustainable community building. Using the ‘Nakaoshi Tankyu BOOK’—a specialized inquiry-based learning tool—students developed unique resources such as animations featuring Ukrainian vegetables, skateboarding demonstration videos, comedy clips, and presentations on regional Japanese food cultures.
The project aims to distribute these student-made materials to schools and learning environments worldwide, creating a continuous cycle of mutual learning between Japan and the international community. The camp also highlighted local initiatives, such as the ‘Nakaoshi Furikake’ project, which uses ingredients from Iki Island to support food security and education in regions like Timor-Leste and South Sudan.
