Ikire shooting: Family rejects police account of Nureni Sobowale's death

The family and driver of Nureni Sobowale, also known as ‘Injector’, have rejected official police accounts regarding his death in Ikire on August 24, 2026. While the Osun Police Command reported that the incident left two civilians dead and three officers injured, witnesses claim the fatality was caused by police fire.

Isiaka Azeez, the commercial driver transporting Sobowale and his wife to Bayelsa, alleged that a police van emerged from a street and an officer inside fired toward them, striking Sobowale in the head. Azeez stated that the officer fired first, contradicting the official narrative.

Family member Fatai Sohunde also disputed police claims that the deceased was a wanted criminal, describing him as an innocent victim and the breadwinner for his five children. The family is demanding justice for the incident.
