Ikot Ekperem community protests abandoned road project

Residents of the Ikot Ekperem community in the Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State are expressing frustration over the deteriorating condition of their primary access road. The project, which reportedly began around 2017/2018, was abandoned, leaving the route filled with deep potholes, mud, and waterlogged sections.

The poor infrastructure has caused significant hardship for local farmers, traders, and students. Village head Ophot Ewot Ejonga Ibuni noted that farmers struggle to transport crops to market, leading to spoilage, and that the road's condition has contributed to accidents and difficulty accessing medical care. While some recent asphalting work has commenced on a portion of the road, residents report that progress has stalled again, leaving much of the stretch impassable.
