İlber Ortaylı Library opens in Gaziantep

The Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı Archaeology and Turkology Specialized Library has officially opened in Gaziantep. Established by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, the facility is designed to support scientific research, preserve cultural heritage, and provide a high-quality academic environment for students and researchers.

The library will serve as a research hub for disciplines including archaeology, art history, anthropology, and Turkology, covering a vast geographic area ranging from Central Asia to the Balkans.

During the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nadir Alpaslan honored the late historian, stating that having Ortaylı’s name attached to such a significant institution is deeply meaningful. Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin noted that the late academic succeeded in making history engaging for the public, while Gaziantep Governor Kemal Çeber, a former student of Ortaylı, emphasized the importance of the institution in preserving the scholar's legacy.
