ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship begins in Dún Laoghaire
The 2026 ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship has commenced in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland, featuring 141 sailors from 45 nations. The competition is considered one of the most difficult titles to secure in international sailing.
Following the first day of racing, local sailor Finn Lynch of Ireland leads the overall standings with 3 points, tied with Italy’s Attilio Borio. Germany’s Ole Schweckendiek currently holds third place with 4 points, tied with Nicholas Halliday of Hong Kong. Other notable competitors include Tonci Stipanovic of Croatia and Jeemin Ha of South Korea.
Weather conditions during the opening races included wind speeds ranging from 6 to 11 knots, with light rain and small waves affecting the later fleets. The German contingent is well-represented by six sailors, including 2020 World Champion Buhl, who is seeking to solidify his standing for future Olympic campaigns.
