ILCA Master European Championships underway in La Baule

The 2026 ILCA Master European Championships in La Baule have commenced, with the first two days marked by varying wind conditions in Pouliguen Bay.

Day one was characterized by light, shifty winds of 4-8 knots and flat water, which led to significant delays and long waits for many competitors. While the ILCA 7 fleet completed two scheduled races, several ILCA 6 categories were unable to finish their full schedule due to the lack of pressure.

On the second day, racing conditions improved with stronger winds ranging from 5-11 knots. This allowed the remaining ILCA 6 fleets to catch up on their schedules, ensuring all fleets have now completed four races as planned. Notable performances included Jose Luis Doreste in the ILCA 7 and 75-year-old Walter Gaehwiler, who secured his first race win in the ILCA 6 Legend fleet.
