Ilda Maria dos Santos, 55, dies after vehicle falls into reservoir in Ibicaraí, Bahia

Ilda Maria dos Santos, a 55‑year‑old resident of Ibicaraí in southern Bahia, died on the morning of 26 July when the Volkswagen Saveiro she was riding in plunged into a reservoir near Fazenda Boa Esperança on Estrada do Jacarandá. She was a passenger alongside her 40‑year‑old brother, Rosalino Carlos de Almeida, who was driving. Rosalino escaped the vehicle and was taken to Hospital Arlete Maron Magalhães, while Ilda could not free herself and perished at the scene.

Local police, including the 63rd Independent Military Police Company and technical experts from the Itabuna Police Technical Department, responded to the accident. A tow truck was used to retrieve the submerged vehicle, and a criminal inquiry has been opened to determine the cause of the crash.
