Ileia wildfires: Emergency services battle multiple fires in Greece
Multiple wildfires are burning in the Ileia region of Greece, prompting a large-scale emergency response. Significant fires have broken out in Gastouni, Kotteika, and the community of Mouzaki near Pyrgos.
In Gastouni and Kotteika, firefighting forces have deployed approximately 100 firefighters, 22 vehicles, six aircraft, and two helicopters to combat flames in areas with low vegetation. Authorities are using drones with thermal and optical cameras to monitor the fronts and manage the distribution of resources. While the fires are active, residential areas are not currently under immediate threat.
In Mouzaki, a major fire that began Sunday afternoon has burned an estimated 600 to 800 stremmata, primarily of forested land. Over 100 firefighters, including specialized mountain units, are working through the night to control active hotspots and prevent reignition. Local officials report that while the situation remains difficult, the fire front is not currently approaching inhabited areas.
