Ilfov driving license officials detained for bribery and organized crime
Mihai Niță, head of the Ilfov Public Community Service for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration, and Cosmin Dobre, a department coordinator, have been detained by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA). The officials are accused of forming an organized criminal group and continuous bribery.
The investigation alleges a three-tier structure involving institution employees and driving instructors. This group reportedly facilitated the passing of driving exams in exchange for money. Methods included selecting easier exam routes, unrecorded assistance with vehicle pedals during practical tests, and failing to document candidate errors.
Prosecutors have requested 30-day preventive detention for Niță and Dobre. Additionally, a police sub-inspector, Dan-Mircea Grigore, has been placed under judicial control for 60 days. The DNA is also investigating other police officers and driving instructors for their potential involvement in the corruption scheme.
