Ilhabela, Brazil, hosts Latin America’s largest ocean sailing competition and free dance showcase

The Semana Internacional de Vela de Ilhabela (SIVI) – the biggest ocean‑sailing competition in Latin America – runs from 26 July to 1 August. Families such as the Nonno crew, who have participated for over three decades, transport their boats over 900 km to compete, while other teams like the Flip Boat Club and Marina Supmar field veteran sailors in classic Delta‑36 and Skipper‑21 yachts.

In parallel, the 21st Ilhabela Dance Show takes place on 11‑12 July at the Centro Cultural da Vila, offering free performances that range from ballet and jazz to capoeira, forró and urban dance. The programme features local groups and invited companies from the Vale do Paraíba and Litoral Norte, showcasing more than forty dancers across diverse styles and emphasizing cultural exchange during the sailing week.
