Ilhabela's 53rd International Sailing Week opens with multiple boats
On Sunday 26 July 2024 the 53rd Semana Internacional de Vela de Ilhabela (SIVI) began with the Alcatrazes by Boreste regatta organized by the Brazilian Navy. The opening race covered roughly 55 nautical miles and started with a south wind inside the Canal de São Sebastião that later shifted to an easterly breeze outside the canal, forcing crews to adapt their strategies.
The Umbuzeiro family entered three vessels under the Inaê project. Bayard Neto captained the Soto40 Transbrasa, which finished 19th in 07h 42m 57s. Beto Umbuzeiro led the Rainha Inaê to eighth place in the Bra‑RGS class with a corrected time of 07h 11m 42s, while veteran Bayard Filho (86) steered Inaê I to tenth place in the RGS‑Cruiser class at 07h 55m 20s.
Phytoervas 4Z, commanded by Marcelo Bellotti, posted the third‑fastest time of 07h 43m 03s, behind Uruguay’s Albariño and the Saci team. The opening ceremony also featured the Smoke Squadron aerobatic display and the presence of the navy frigate Tamandaré F200.
